TWIRLING
THROUGH
TIME

We’re thrilled to share this show with you and truly hope you enjoy it. This Christmas, we wanted to create a performance that captures the seasonal spirit without being entirely consumed by it. Let’s face it, sometimes the holidays can feel like too much - too much tinsel, too much turkey, too much everything.

The idea for this show was born during conversations on the road while Ryan was working as a technician for Tom’s previous show, Section 28 and Me. We decided to dive headfirst into the creative process, pulling together something new in a very short space of time. The result is a piece that feels immediate, DIY in spirit, and, above all, fun - a refreshing antidote to the challenging times we’re often navigating.

Collaborating artistically has been a joy for us. Tom embraced the role of costume mistress, while Ryan focused on lighting and technical design, both roles feeling intuitive and genuine extensions of who we are.

What began as chats in a van during a tour evolved into online meetings - writing, brainstorming, and shaping this show. With Ryan based in the Netherlands and Tom in Bristol (as a resident at the Pervasive Media Studio in the Watershed), this remote collaboration allowed us to stay connected creatively. Over the past three weeks, we’ve brought it all together in person, working in the studio at MAYK and Bristol Old Vic.

We’ve also had the chance to test and refine material with audiences, sharing snippets at the Knowle West Media Centre, at the Mount Without for an over-65’s social, at the Proud Bar in Weston-Super-Mare and the Pound Arts Centre in Corsham. These opportunities to gauge audience responses have been invaluable.

Tom Marshman has been creating work for over 25 years, focusing primarily on queer histories, while Ryan O’Shea is a performance maker situated in the shifting in-betweens of tech, design and live performance.

Creating theatre is not without its challenges—profit margins are slim, and the landscape can be difficult for artists like us. Yet, we’re committed to making work that feels significant and joyful, even with limited resources. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way, whether through advice, space, or encouragement.
